Wann Delivers In Win Over Bonnies
10/02/2011 | Women's Soccer
Becca Wann scored her team-leading 10th and 11th goals en route to a 2-0 win over St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon in Olean, N.Y.
"We played in very difficult conditions, with the pouring rain and muddy field and battled out there," said head coach Peter Albright. Melissa Pacheco had a great game in goal for us and Becca was tremendous today. Melissa Alvarez-Freeman played well for us on defense and overall it was a great win. It was really big to come out with the win and gain three points."
Wann connected on a header thanks to a Liza Koch pass sent from the corner in the game's 21st minute. Wann added the insurance again from Koch by way of a header 15 minutes later to boost the lead to 2-0 before the break.
Koch has a team-leading seven assists and is second on the team with nine points.
St. Bonaventure outshot Richmond, 19-6, and Melissa Pacheco had a stellar game in goal with nine keeps. Wann led Richmond with three shots.
The Spiders improved to 7-4-2 overall and 1-1-0 in league play. Richmond returns to action next weekend in Philadelphia with matchups against Temple and Saint Joe's on Friday and Sunday respectively.
