10/07/2011 | Women's Soccer
Becca Wann scored with two minutes left in regulation as the Spiders edged Temple, 3-2, Friday night in Philadelphia.
The Owls struck first when team-leading scorer Niki Conn scored at the 11-minute mark. Richmond countered with a Becca Wann tally, courtesy of a Natalie LeClair pass three minutes later to knot the score at 1-1. Temple added another score in the 25th minute to go ahead 2-1.
"Gritty second-half performance for us," said head coach Peter Albright. "Temple really competed and made it tough. Becca Wann and Natalie LeClair were terrific for us."
LeClair scored the equalizer thanks to an Emily Dale pass in the 35th minute to make the score 2-2 before the break.
A-10 leading scorer Wann notched her fifth game-winning goal of the season off a Kristin Lescalleet pass in the 88th minute to win it for the Spiders.
Wann is ninth in the country in goals scored and 14th in game-winning tallies.
Richmond improved to 8-4-2, 2-1-0 in conference play, while Temple fell to 3-9-0, 0-3-0.
Wann led the Spiders with eight shots, while Erin Layne followed with three. Richmond outshot Temple, 20-5, and held the Owls shotless in the second half.
Richmond won the corners, 7-3, and Andrea Young recorded two saves in goal.
The Spiders return to action with Saint Joe's Sunday at 1 p.m.
