Editor's Note: Cross country freshman and Richmond native Taylor Clevinger will share her thoughts and experiences in an ongoing blog that offers readers an inside look into life as a Spider on the course, in the classroom and around campus. Below is her sixth entry of the season.
Hi again! Wow, I can't believe how fast this year is flying by, but I am having a blast. We had Fall Break last week, and it was really nice to relax and spend time with family and friends that I haven't seen in a long time. I cannot forget to mention enjoying my mom's home-cooked meals and my dad's fresh grilling. I had such a great time with my family.
After the long, tiresome 25-minute drive (haha) back to campus on Monday, I was ready for an awesome cross country team scavenger hunt. Jason Skipper, Liz Schinski, Alyson McGonigle and I were on a team for the scavenger hunt, and we traveled all around Richmond together in our attempt to win.
The game became so competitive that I ended up calling one of my friends from high school and one of my previous coaches who lives in the area because I knew they had some of the items on the list at their houses. It was helpful to have connections in the area.
We were just as competitive in the scavenger hunt as we are when racing. It was intense because we all wanted to win the prizes. More importantly, we wanted bragging rights as the scavenger hunt champs. Unfortunately, my group did not end up winning, but we all had a lot of fun!
As for running, last weekend we raced at the University of Virginia's Panorama Farms Invitational. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to compete because I am still recovering from an illness, but the team raced very well. The Spider women came in sixth and the men finished seventh out of a very promising field. I heard that they had a great trip and that the course was beautiful with the colorful leaves on the trees and the tall mountains in the background.
Training has been going well, too. It feels great to be back and running workouts again. Everyone on the team is enjoying great workouts as well, and I can't wait to see all the hard work and determination come together in our upcoming conference championship races.
With the end of the season quickly approaching, all of our training is getting fine-tuned. We will definitely be ready to show the other teams what the Spiders are all about at the A-10 Championships on October 29. GO SPIDERS!
