Postgame Quotes: #9 Maine 23, #18 Richmond 22
10/22/2011 | Football
Richmond Head Coach
Wayne Lineburg
Opening Statement:
"This was a tough loss for our team. Our kids played really,
really hard. Made a lot of plays, but you have to give Maine credit. They made
plays, especially down the stretch. We hurt ourselves with turnovers. The
blocked PAT's hurt us. We didn't make enough plays. The offense stalled in the
second half. I'm proud of our team's effort but we have to find a way to make a
play and win games. Maine found ways to win the game, we didn't."
Difference from first
half to second half:
"We just couldn't get our offense going in the second half.
The momentum shifted in the fourth quarter. They made the plays and we didn't."
Motivation and the
possibility of playoffs:
"The Duke win helps. I still believe in this team and
players. They've hung together through a lot of adversity this year. They're a
great group of guys. We'll bounce back and be ready next week. If we can just
win one, I think we can get on a roll and get going. They're a resilient group
of guys."
Trey's record-setting
afternoon:
"I can't say enough about him. He's certainly one of the best
players I've ever been around. Hats off to him for a great career. He's doing
everything in his power to help us win games and he's doing a heck of a job."
Close losses:
"We'd like to find a way to win these games. It's frustrating
but we have to come back. I still think we can do it. This is a great group of
kids and we'll bounce back and be ready for next week."
SR WR Trey Gray
Difference on first
half to second half:
"They made changes but we need to continue to execute. They
disguised coverage and had more blitzes."
JR S Cooper Taylor
Return of defensive
players:
"It was incredible to have them back. The true freshmen did a
great job. It was good for the freshmen to get experience but it's great to
have our guys back. They made plays and gave us a boost."
On interception:
"We've always been talking about big plays on defense. We
were hoping that was going to be the one to help us win the game. We just have
to keep fighting."
Maine Head Coach Jack
Cosgrove
Opening Statement:
"We played with great poise in the fourth quarter and got a
great win for our program."
Rallying from a
16-point deficit:
"It was really special. This team has demonstrated some
resolve. This team has gone toe-to-toe with Madison. This was entirely
different as it was a 16-point deficit. We always thought we could do this. The
defense came up big for us in the second half, with stop after stop. As good as
Richmond's offense was, I think our defense did a tremendous job in the second
half."
Pressuring the
Richmond offense:
"Let's be honest, Tre [Gray] was hard to contain. He is a
phenomenal receiver. Aaron [Corp] is a pocket passer and when they protect for
him, it's virtually impossible to defend. We pressured him in the second half
because we felt if we let him get set, he'd pick us apart."
