UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond has entered into a partnership with IMG College Ticket Solutions to have a full-time sales staff help the Spiders in ticket sales for men's basketball games.
The Spiders join a growing number of institutions partnering with IMG College Ticket Solutions, including Duke, Penn State, Tennessee, Temple, UNLV and Akron. Richmond will be the only non-FBS school with IMG College Ticket Solutions.
"We are very excited about our partnership with IMG College Ticket Solutions," Richmond Deputy Athletic Director David Walsh said. "We are looking forward to IMG helping us build on our success in men's basketball by enhancing our customer service, increasing attendance and expanding our fan base."
Two IMG sales people will work directly with Richmond's marketing and sales staff. Richmond had already added a full-time group sales position in the athletic department last year.
"Richmond is committed to providing the best resources for its student-athletes and a great experience for fans," Matt DiFebo, Vice President of IMG College said. "We look forward to a strong partnership and working proactively to provide exceptional customer service to these passionate fans while helping Richmond Athletics grow its fan base."
Richmond had the 13th-highest increase in average attendance from 2009-10 and finished in the top-100 in the nation in men's basketball attendance for the 2010-11 season, according to statistics compiled by the NCAA.
The Spiders' average attendance increased by 1,330 from the 2009-10 season, which ranked 13th in the nation.
Richmond drew 89,382 fans for 15 home games, which ranked just behind Gonzaga (6,000) and ahead of Temple (5,925). Richmond ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 in attendance this past season and in the top-25 among non-BCS conference teams.
The Spiders have made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including making the 2011 Sweet 16. The 2011 Atlantic 10 Champions have finished the last two seasons ranked in the Top-25, tying the school record for wins in 2009-10 (26) and setting a new school record with 29 victories in 2010-11.
Richmond has already had a successful partnership with IMG College, formerly ISP Sports, which has handled the Spiders' multimedia rights for the last five years, including oversight of corporate sponsorships, signage in its athletics venues and coordination of the school's radio network.
