Richmond Downs American In Opener

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Kendall Anthony scored 20 points in his collegiate debut as Richmond defeated American 66-56 Friday night in the Robins Center.
In a night when Richmond honored its 1988 Sweet 16 team led by Ken Atkinson and its 2011 Sweet 16 team led by Kevin Anderson, KA3 made 4-of-9 field goals and 11-22 free throws to score 20 points.
Sophomore Cedrick Lindsay scored 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting and had four assists. Sophomore Derrick Williams had 12 points and eight rebounds and Francis-Cedric Martel had 11 points.
The Spiders held American to 33.3 percent shooting, despite the Eagles making 10 three-point field goals.
Richmond plays at Davidson on Monday night at 8:15 p.m.
