Oliver Scores 1,000th As Spiders Dominate ODU

Richmond scored 15 points in the game's first two minutes and never looked back as it toppled ODU, 78-63, Sunday afternoon.
Oliver became the 18th Spider in program history to notch 1,000 points in her career. Oliver ended her memorable day with a season-high 22 points, off 8-for-16 from the field, including 3-of-5 from long range. Oliver also chipped in with a season-best seven boards and four steals.
The white-hot shooting of Rachael Bilney continued, with 14 points, 2-of-3 from behind the arc, four assists and three steals. Genevieve Okoro rounded out double-figure scoring with 10 points.
Richmond came out focused and ready, sprinting out to a 15-2 lead within the game's first two minutes. Richmond continued to take advantage of Old Dominion turnovers to score and take its largest lead of the half at 27-9 with 9:56 to play.
The Lady Monarchs seemed to settle in and scored 20 points over the game's next eight minutes to get within a 36-27 deficit. Almost all of the ODU's points came at the free-throw line where it made 12 of its 30 first-half points.
ODU closed the first frame with three more points and held Richmond without a field goal the last 2:30 of the half but Richmond led 36-30 at the break.
ODU scored the first bucket out of the gate, cutting the deficit to 36-32, but Richmond scored eight unanswered to take command of the game for good.
ODU went to the foul line 36 times, as opposed to Richmond's 13 tries. Richmond held the edge on the boards, 43-35, and dished 17 assists. The Spiders also had 15 steals.
Miah Register added eight points, and Liz Brown, Keri Soppe, Ryann Dannelly and Becca Wann all chipped in with six.
The 4-0 start for the Spiders' is their best since the 2008-09 season.
Richmond plays at Florida Gulf Coast next Friday, Nov. 25 for a 7 p.m. game.
