UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond sophomore Mali Kobelja was named Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week by the conference office on Monday. Kobelja, whose honor is the second of the season and the sixth of her career after she was tabbed Rookie of the Week four times a season ago, shares this week's award with Fordham's Courtney Collyer.
Kobelja (Fort Wayne, Ind./R. Nelson Snider) continued her solid sophomore campaign with a pair of top-three finishes among a strong field at Maryland's Terp Cup last week. She turned in a season-best time of 2:04.61 in the prelims of the 200 IM on Thursday before touching in for a third-place finish with a time of 2:04.85 in the evening's finals. She turned in another third-place showing (4:22.96) in the 400 portion of the event the following day.
After touching in for a season-best time of 1:06.08 to take 12th in the 100 breast on Friday, the sophomore standout followed suit with a time of 2:20.64 in the 200 portion of the race to wrap up the invite with a ninth-place finish in the event.
With Richmond now having reached the midway point of its 2011-12 campaign, Kobelja has recorded conference bests in each of the aforementioned four events this season.
Next up for her and Spider Swim & Dive is a dual with Atlantic 10 neighbor to the north Rhode Island during the team's training trip on Jan. 6 in Sarasota, Fla.
