Sean Casey Elected To Reds Hall Of Fame

Sean Casey, UR Hall of Famer Class of 2003, added another honor to his long list of achievements when he was elected Monday to the Cincinatti Reds Hall of Fame in a fan ballot. Formal induction ceremonies will be held at Great American Ball Park the weekend of June 22-24, when the Reds host the Minnesota Twins.
In eight years with the Reds, Casey, known as "The Mayor" for his outgoing personality with fans, teammates, opponents and the media, hit .305 with 118 home runs and 604 RBIs in 1,075 games. He was a three-time All Star. His best season was 1999, when he hit .332 for a Reds team that won 96 games but just missed the playoffs.
Casey was drafted in the second round by Cleveland in 1995, but was traded to the Reds just prior to opening day in 1998. His draft selection came on the heels of a record-shattering career with the Spiders.
"I am so happy for Sean and couldn't be prouder," said UR head baseball coach Mark McQueen, who was an assistant during Casey's days as a Spider. "I am one of his biggest fans. Not just because of the accomplishments he achieved on the field both as a Spider and as a Major League All Star, but as a person and a friend, there are none better. How fitting it was that he was voted in by the fans."
At Richmond, Casey topped the nation in batting average his junior season (.461) and led the Spiders to their first-ever NCAA Tournament win in 1995. He became the first player in CAA history to win the Triple Crown, leading the conference in batting average, home runs and RBI. He earned CAA Player of the Year and Second Team All-America honors.
Off the field, he won Major League Baseball's Hutch Award in 1999 for uncompromising devotion to baseball, dedication to team, community and family, as well as competitive spirit and ability to battle through adversity. While with the Reds, he was twice honored with the team's Joe Nuxhall Good Guy Award.
Casey is currently an analyst for MLB Network and occasionally works Reds games for FOX Sports Ohio.
