Spider Baseball Holds Off Wildcats to Win Series

Richmond, now 27-20 on the year and 14-10 in conference action, heads on the road to take on Old Dominion Tuesday at the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex in Norfolk, Va. First pitch is set for 6 PM and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Dylan Winebrenner put the Spiders on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Chris Schaller, who reached by drawing a walk.
Davidson answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, connecting three hits and a walk to go up, 2-1.
Schaller scored again in the third on a Winebrenner base hit to center to tie the game at 2-all.
The Wildcats put up three on UR starter Jackson Hinchliffe in the third, on three hits, a walk and a hit batter and go up 5-2. Hinchliffe allowed five runs on six hits, two walks and two hit batters while striking out five in three innings of work.
DC tagged Bijan Anvar for three runs over a third of an inning of work in the fourth on three hits, a hit batter and a walk. He also collected a strikeout. Dylan Siesky got the final two outs of the fourth and threw the fifth inning for the Spiders. Siesky allowed one run on a walk and a hit batter while striking out three.
Ryan Recio hit his seventh home run of the season down the left field line in the fourth. Schaller collected a double to lead off the fifth and scored on RJ Rickabaugh's base hit to right.
Richmond bats got hot in the sixth inning, putting up six runs on five hits, one walk, one hit batter and a Davidson miscue. The Spiders scored all six runs with two outs. Schaller brought in Sean Scanlon who reached on a pinch-hit hit-by-pitch. Winebrenner brought in two with a base hit through the right side to make it 7-9. After a pitching change, Rickabaugh brought in RJ Johnson Jr with a base hit to right. Aidan O'Keefe hit a two-RBI base hit to left to give Richmond a 10-9 lead.
Dominic Ruggiero scattered three hits and one walk in one and a third of an inning of action, while striking out three to keep the Wildcats off the board in the sixth. As the pitcher of record when the Spiders took the lead, Ruggiero collected his first collegiate win.
Angel Santiago-Cruz followed with one and two-thirds of an inning of action, allowing two hits, and striking out one. Justin Gay got the final out of the eighth, freezing the Wildcat batter on three straight strikes. He allowed one hit in the ninth, then struck out three-straight to capture his fifth save of the season. The Richmond pitchers struck out a season-high 17 Wildcats, the most since the staff sat down 15 in a 10-2 win at James Madison.
