Jessie Krebs' Training Trip Blog: Day 3
12/31/2011 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Editor's Note: Sophomore Jessie Krebs will chronicle her time with Spider Swim & Dive on the team's winter training trip to Sarasota, Fla., this December and January. Below is her third blog entry of the trip.
Dec. 31, 2011: Bring It On, 2012!
I'm writing this blog from our new digs, which Jill has cleverly named "Chez Gangster". We were lucky enough to get a condo that overlooks the beach, and the view is amazing. At the moment, we are inside watching fireworks that people are setting off out on the beach.
After a long day of training, we've determined there's a good chance none of us will make it until midnight. Luckily, we just had a little team meeting where we shared some personal accomplishments from the past year. The meeting ended with a toast to the New Year with some sparking grape juice. Most of us drank ours... with the exception of Meredith, who spewed it out of her nose from laughing.
Today's practices were two hard ones. For those of us in the distance group, we started off with a long-distance freestyle set. I wish I could tell you what the other groups did, but we wore snorkels the whole time, so I spent a solid hour staring at the bottom of the pool.
This evening, though, we were all together and did some fast repetitions off the blocks. We helped each other through the set thanks to Jill's cheering and inspirational dance moves. While Matt discourages her dancing, we have determined that those who dance swim faster than those who don't.
I'd also like to take a moment to give a shout out to Steve Carroll. Steve is a University of Richmond alum who graduated in 1973. He recently moved to the area and heard that we were here from none other than THIS BLOG! This made me especially excited because I now know there is at least one reader out there. Thanks, Steve!
I'm gonna wrap this one up because grandma here is getting sleepy. We will be ringing in 2012 with a 6:30 a.m. practice tomorrow. BRING IT ON, 2012! Happy New Year!
