UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Fresh off the first double-double of her career, freshman Genevieve Okoro earned her second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor after scoring 14 points and grabbing a career-best 16 boards en route to the Spiders' 72-60 win over GW Saturday.
Okoro's 16 rebounds was just one shy of tying a season-high set by teammate Crystal Goring (17) in a win over Old Dominion earlier this season. The Gibbsboro, N.J., native shot 73 percent (8-11) at the line, while dishing out two assists, picking up two steals and recording one block. With the win, Okoro helped the Spiders cap a three-year sweep of the Colonials and handed head coach Michael Shafer his 100th win.
Okoro leads bench scoring with 6.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg and 17.4 mpg. Okoro earned her first A-10 Rookie of the Week nod Dec. 13 after scoring a career-best 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds off the bench in a win over Old Dominion.
Three different Spiders have earned A-10 weekly honors with Brittani Shells and Abby Oliver garnering one apiece, while Okoro has two Rookie of the Week nods.
Richmond plays at La Salle Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its last conference road game of the season.
