PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Kevin Anderson scored 22 points and had 6 assists as Richmond (22-7, 12-3 Atlantic 10) clinched a bye in the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the third time in the last four years with a 69-54 victory at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night.
Anderson made 6-of-12 field goals, 1-of-2 three-pointers, grabbed four rebounds and had two steals as he scored 20 or more points for the second-straight game and the 39th time in his career. The 2010 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, who scored his 2,000th career point on Saturday, now has 2,031 career points.
Justin Harper had 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, Dan Geriot had 14 points and Darien Brothers had 10 as the Spiders locked up the No. 3 seed in the A-10 Tourney for the second-straight season. Richmond has one more regular season game on Saturday, hosting Duquesne and then the Spiders will play an A-10 quarterfinal game next Friday night at 9 p.m. in Atlantic City.
The Spiders improved to 10-3 on the road and 12-4 away of the Robins Center and finished with a 7-1 road record in A-10 play. Richmond clinched the best road record in A-10 conference play for the third-straight season. The Spiders have won 16 of the last 19 conference road games.
With 10 road wins, the Spiders tied the 1952-53 and 1985-86 teams for the second most road wins in a season. The 1934-35 team went 11-0 on the road.
Richmond completed a season sweep of all three teams the Spiders played twice, Charlotte, George Washington and Saint Joseph's and won on Hawk Hill for the second-straight season after having lost in its first seven visits. The Spiders were 1-9 against Saint Joseph's before Chris Mooney took over in 2005-06 and are 4-4 against the Hawks under Mooney, with all four wins coming by double-figures.
Richmond has won by double-figures in 19 of its 23 victories and has won by at least eight points in all but once.
The Spiders conclude the regular season on Saturday at home against Duquesne at noon on the CBS College Sports Network.
