Flowers Earns A-10 Player of the Week Honors For The Second Time This Season

Junior Mary Flowers was named A-10 Player of the Week for the second time this season after scoring six goals in a program-setting win over Longwood.
Flowers registered 10 points on six goals and four assists, while adding eight groundballs, six draw controls and three caused turnovers in two games as Richmond posted a 1-1 record last week. The junior attacker opened the week leading the Spiders with six goals in a 24-14 win over Longwood. Flowers scored five of her six goals in the second half against Longwood breaking open a game that was tied 5-5 at the half.
The Virginia Beach, Va., native finished the game with seven points as she attempted a game-high 10 shots. In a tough overtime loss to Towson over the weekend, Flowers tallied three assists, three groundballs and three draw controls, while causing one turnover. This marks her second A-10 Player of the Week accolade this year.
Flowers leads the A-10 in goals and has doubled the total of the next closest player to her in this category.
This is the third player of the week honor garnered by Flowers, as she earned a nod earlier this season for an eight goal output and scored a then career-best six goals in a win over St. Bonaventure last year.
The Spiders host Duquesne at the Robins Stadium Apr. 1 at 7:00 p.m.
