Flowers Tabbed Midfielder Of The Year, Seven Spiders Earn Honors

Junior Mary Flowers was named A-10 Midfielder of the Year for the second-straight season, while seven other Spiders earned All Conference accolades as announced by the league office Thursday.
Flowers was earned her second consecutive Midfielder of the Year accolade and second-straight Atlantic 10 first team honor, thanks to a stellar junior campaign. Flowers leads the nation and league in ground balls per game (4.14) and also is tops in the A-10 in points (60) and draw controls (3.79). The two-time Player of the Week also ranks third in the conference in goals per game (2.64) and assists per game (1.64).
Joining Flowers on the first team was starting freshman defender Taylor Blazer. The Berlin, Md. native has started every game for the Spiders this season and is tops on the team in caused turnovers (32) and 11th in the nation in caused turnovers (1.88) per game. Blazer is also second in ground balls (44) and third in draw controls (35).
Four Spiders earned second team accolades in Gabi Wiegand, Danielle Schaevitz, Bria Eulitt and Caitlin Fifield. Wiegand scored a career-best seven goals in a 20-5 win over St. Bonaventure this season. Wiegand is third on the team in goals (28) and points (40). Wiegand was an All Rookie and second team selection last year. Schaevitz is second on the team with 33 scores and has saw action in every game this season.
Eulitt, a team captain, and veteran defender, has started every game this season and is third on the team in ground balls (43) and caused turnovers (17). This is the second All Conference selection for Eulitt as she was a first team honoree last season.
Fifield sat out last season due to a season-ending injury, but has returned her junior year in style. Fifield was named A-10 Player of the Week after leading Richmond to wins over La Salle and Temple. Fifield is fourth on the team in goals (27) and second in draw controls (38). Fifield was an All Rookie selection her freshman year.
Blazer was also named to the All Rookie team as was freshman Hayley Ross. Ross has appeared in every game but one for the Spiders and recorded a hat trick at Temple.
The Spiders play Temple tomorrow in the A-10 semifinals at Geasey Field on Temple's campus at 1:00 p.m.
