Women's Tennis Blanks Charlotte In A-10 Opening Round

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
Top-seeded Richmond picked up an impressive 4-0 victory over No. 8 Charlotte during the opening round of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship, Friday night at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
Richmond, who earned a first-round bye, advances the quarterfinals of the event and will go head-to-head with the winner of the #4 George Washington/#5 Xavier match, while the 49ers fall to the consolation bracket and will take on the loser of the Colonials/Musketeers contest on Saturday morning.
The defending champion Spiders clinched the coveted doubles point with victories at the number one and three tandem positions. With the 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition, UR got wins from Sydney Grant, Kelly Tidwell and Elizabeth Sims - all in straight sets - to advance in the event.
