PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
Richmond squares off against top-seeded (#14) UMass today at 1:00 p.m. at Geasey Field for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship. The game is nationally televised on CBS College Sports.
The Spiders rallied past Temple, 12-8 in Friday's semifinal game, due in large part to Danielle Schaevitz's seven points (four goals, three assists). Richmond went on an unanswered seven-goal run to secure the victory.
Massachusetts handled Duquesne, 16-8 in the following game with Jackie Lyons scoring four goals to go along with three assists.
Both teams meet for the second-straight time in the Championship game. The Spiders held an early 5-2 advantage before UMass came back and tied the game last year. The contest was a back-and-forth affair before the Minutewomen pulled away at the end, winning 12-10.
Richmond looks for its fourth straight title, having won championships from 2005-2007.
Should Richmond win, it would host the NCAA play-in game against the winner of the MAAC conference. Date and time will be announced at a later date.
