Spiders Mourn Passing Of Former Football Coach Jim Tait

The Spider Athletic Family mourns the passing Friday of Jim Tait after a long illness. He was 75.
Mr. Tait coached football for 42 seasons, including 24 at UR. He was Richmond's head coach from 1974-1979. The Spiders won the Southern Conference title in 1975 and Mr. Tait was named Coach of the Year.
He also served as Spider offensive coordinator from 1965-73. His offense led UR to the memorable 1968 Tangerine Bowl victory over Ohio University, 49-42.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 23, at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Time of Remembrance at 7 p.m. A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Huguenot Rd., on Tuesday, May 24, at 2 p.m. A private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
