Day 8 Recap: 2011 Training Camp
08/13/2011 | Football
The second two-a-day of 2011 Training Camp finished up Friday night under the lights at Robins Stadium. The Spiders will now prep for an open scrimmage Saturday at 3 p.m.
"I liked the intensity during both practices today," said head coach Latrell Scott. "I know the guys are excited for tomorrow and it should be a good gauge as to where we are after a week of Camp."
Highlights came on both sides of the ball on the eighth day of Training Camp, after the defense owned Thursday's practice.
Sophomore DL Kerry Wynn was on the receiving end of a deflected pass by fellow sophomore DL Brandon Scott, while junior LB Derek Mayo also had an interception. Senior S Colin Pehanick posted another turnover for the defense, as he tracked TE Sam Roller after a 20-yard catch and stripped him in the open field.
On the other side, junior QB John Laub found sophomore WR Christian Parker wide open for a 42-yard touchdown catch. And later, during the final period of practice - the two-minute drill - sophomore QB Montel White moved the Spiders into field goal range with a 38-yard hook-up with redshirt freshman WR Stephen Barnette.
True freshman PK Remington Hinshaw booted a 32-yard field goal as time expired in the two-minute drill to end practice.
