Day 9 Recap: 2011 Training Camp
08/14/2011 | Football
The Richmond Football team held its first scrimmage of 2011 Training Camp Saturday, before a good crowd on an overcast afternoon at Robins Stadium.
Senior QB Aaron Corp and junior QB John Laub each threw touchdown passes, while senior DB Tremayne Graham and senior S Colin Pehanick each had interceptions during the 80-play scrimmage, which also featured Red Zone and Goal Line situations.
Corp, in his first true "live" action in the nearly eight months since a season-ending knee injury last October, looked sharp. He and sophomore WR Ben Edwards hooked up early for a 41-yard completion down the right sideline. That play helped set up the first points of the day - a 37-yard field goal by junior Wil Kamin.
Although giving up both interceptions, Corp connected with senior WR Tre Gray for a 22-yard touchdown strike on a perfectly-placed ball in the back corner of the end zone. He also found redshirt freshman WR Stephen Barnette, who made a leaping, acrobatic catch for 20 yards.
Senior RB Garrett Turner had a solid afternoon, chewing up tough yards and punching in a two-yard TD run on third-and-goal. Freshman RB Justin Grant also saw significant action in the backfield.
But the big play of the afternoon was a 60-yard touchdown strike as Laub found sophomore WR Christian Parker wide open down the left sideline.
Defensively, Graham and Pehanick posted the interceptions, while DL Mike Poplaski had a fumble recovery.
Richmond enjoys its first off-day tomorrow before resuming practice Monday at 3 p.m.
