The Spiders were edged by Ohio, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Athens, Ohio.
The Bobcat tally came at the 27-minute mark when Louzeth Schutte scored off an assist from Laura Mastro.
Katelin Peterson led Richmond with three shots, while Rebecca Barry and Liesl Schnuck had two apiece.
The Spiders outshot Ohio, 9-7, and earned the advantage in corners, 6-3. Goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski had two saves.
"Opening weekend was rather bittersweet for the Spider team," said head coach Gina Lucido. "The win over St. Francis got the first game nerves out of the way and had several highlight moments in team play. The second contest against an aggressive Ohio team tested our ability to make tactical changes and go after a strong opponent. The team remains fixed on a season of promise and looks towards the opportunity to challenge the Buckeyes next weekend."
Richmond picked up its first win of the season with a dominating 5-0 win over St. Francis Saturday.
The Spiders return to action next Saturday, Sept. 3 against Ohio State in Harrisonburg, Va.
