UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Four Spiders finished in double figures and Richmond turned in a complete game on both ends of the floor on Saturday as it rolled to a 76-65 victory over conference rival Temple at the Robins Center. With the win Richmond has now won three of the last five against the Owls, including last season's A-10 semifinal matchup, and three straight at home.
In search of his second career double-double, sophomore Derrick Williams nearly had it by the half after he broke open the game with 12 points and nine boards to send the Spiders to a commanding 44-25 lead at intermission.
Richmond would never look back after the half as junior Darien Brothers buried a pair of clutch treys and sophomore Cedrick Lindsay poured in nine of his 11 points in the second frame to lead the Spiders in their near wire-to-wire victory over the Owls on Saturday's nationally-televised stage.
Williams finished with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 13 rebounds to clinch the double-double, while junior Darien Brothers was 4-for-8 from long range to tally a team-high 19 points. Freshman Kendall Anthony also buried four shots from behind the arc to add 15 points and Lindsay aided the Spider cause in handing out five of the team's 13 assists.
Senior Darrius Garrett turned in another dominant defensive effort, finishing the night with 10 rebounds and a game-high five blocks, marking the sixth time this season he has recorded at least five swats.
Richmond (11-7, 2-1 A-10) went 26-for-59 (44.1%) from the field and drained 8-of-18 (44.4%) treys while holding the Owls to 22-of-60 (36.7%) shooting and just 6-of-20 (30%) from behind the arc. The Spiders were narrowly outrebounded, 39-38, but came away just one short of their season high with 13 offensive boards.
Junior Khalif Wyatt led Temple (11-5, 1-2 A-10) with a game-high 22 points. Senior Ramone Moore joined him in double figures with 17 points and freshman Anthony Lee hauled in a team-high 12 rebounds.
The Spiders return to the road on Wednesday when they visit George Washington for a 7 p.m. matchup in the nation's capital.
