Track & Field Travels North to Navy, George Mason

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond men's and women's track & field teams will travel up the I-95 corridor on Saturday for the Navy Classic and George mason's Patriot Games. Check below for news and notes on the Spiders in addition to important information and links regarding this weekend's meets.
INSIDE THE NAVY
CLASSIC
The Spider women will take part in Saturday's Navy Classic in
Annapolis, Md. The women's-only meet is scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m. at the
Midshipmen's Wesley A. Brown Field House. The annual invite will only feature
running events on the facility's 200 Meter Mondo track with hydraulically controlled
banked curves. Joining the Spiders at Saturday's meet are the host Mids, The
Citadel, La Salle, Penn and William and Mary.

PATRIOT GAMES
The Spider men will join the women's field athletes at George Mason's
Patriot Games on Saturday in Fairfax, Va. The games are set to get underway at
10 a.m. with the women's long jump with the 4x800 Meter Relay kicking off the
men's running events at 11:15. The meet will be held on a 200 Meter Martin 2000
surfaced track in Mason's Field House.

In her indoor season debut, senior Nicol Traynor led Richmond with a
school-record finish in the 3,000 Meters to highlight action for the Spiders at
Virginia Tech's Hokie Invitational this past weekend.
Traynor (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) turned in a time of 9:40.63 to win the 3,000 Meters and smash the school record previous held by '11 alum Amy Van Alstine by more than five seconds. The 2011 All-American would also combine with sophomore Alyson McGonigle and freshmen Taylor Clevinger and Amber Young for a third-place showing in the DMR with a time of 12:00.56.
Clevinger (Mechanicsville, Va./Saint Catherine's School) returned to the track for a ninth-place finish in the 1,000 Meters with a time of 2:57.83. Fellow Richmonder Amanda Lineberry (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee Davis) clocked a 3:01.85 to finish just outside the top-10 in 11th.
Clevinger and Lineberry would join forces with McGonigle (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and sophomore Alli Mannon (Litiz, Pa./Warwick) in the 4x800 Meter Relay, turning in a time of 9:12.56 to take third.
Junior Stephanie Paradis (Leesburg, Va./Stone Bridge) opened her indoor season in a big way, recording a time of 5:00.29 to secure the second spot in the mile. Senior Lydia Morton (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon) crossed the tape in 5:18.70 to finish sixth.
Senior Beth Kelly (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) turned in another top-three showing for the Spiders in the 5,000 Meters, going the distance in 18:27.22 to capture third. Classmate Emma Berry (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) would follow in fourth with a time of 18:50.63.
Not to be outdone over in the field events, Grace Gibson (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) continued what has been a strong start to her sophomore campaign in the pole vault with a leap of 3.35 Meters (10'11.75") to take finish fifth.
On the men's side, freshman Andrew Valenski (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) clocked a 2:32.44 to open his collegiate indoor career with an 11th-place showing in the 1,000 Meters. He would follow that up with a 13th-place showing in the mile in a time of 4:21.20.
Fellow newcomers Billy Fayette, Matthew Groff and Micah Morton combined with sophomore standout Ryan Lee for a seventh-place finish in the DMR with a time of 10:25.23. The foursome's finish was less than five seconds off a top-five performance.

TABBED A-10 PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Following her school-record finish in the 3,000 Meters at Hokie Invite
this past weekend, senior Nicol Traynor was named A-10 Women's Indoor Track
& Field Performer of the Week on Monday by the conference office. The award
is the second of her Spider track career.
