Jan. 3, 2012: Pushing Ourselves at Practice and a Major Condo Crisis
This morning we braved the elements and practiced in 500 mph winds. I actually have no idea what the wind speed was, but it was MOVING! While doing backstroke, I could watch the water fly off my hands. At one point, Meredith even had to grab onto my foot because I started flying away. No lie!
The whole experience reminded me of some sort of military training, so I decided to speak like a cadet for most of the practice. "SIR, PERMISSION TO DRINK MY GATORADE, SIR!" or "SIR, PERMISSION TO COMMENCE PUSHOFF, SIR!" This ended when Matt told the distance group that we would be doing 400 IMs though. At that point, all I could say was, "I'm cold." But we pulled it together, got through the set and are stronger because of it!
This evening we had the whole pool to ourselves and were able to spread out, which allowed us to do a ton of different practices and work in small groups. Some of us did an IM sort of set, others focused on breaststroke, while others focused on freestyle. We all did a portion with fins, and as expected Liz was a stud. The last set of the day was to hit the hot tub, so we all piled in (check out our photo album). We would have stayed there all night, but Matt threatened to leave without us.
As for our condo, we faced a minor crisis today in the form of running out of toilet paper. Jill ran all around the complex begging random passerby, but we could not find a soul who could offer us any TP. We got by between practices after Allison pulled a desperate move and snagged some toilet paper from the pool bathroom. Luckily, Travis (reluctantly) took a group of us on a grocery store run after practice and we were able to obtain some TP.
Travis is slowly but surely accepting that we will probably need a daily grocery store run. After we returned, we enjoyed a fantastic chicken dinner prepared by Alaina. It's a meal her aunt makes and has creatively named "fantastic chicken".
Later, we had a meeting that I can't talk about too much because we discussed SUPER SECRET team goals. Let's just say we've got some big ambitions. We did discuss our upcoming alumni meet, and I hope that any alumni reading this who haven't signed up will consider coming.
I am extremely pumped for tomorrow because the DIVERS arrive after spending a few days practicing down in Fort Lauderdale! I can't wait to be reunited with my weight lifting buddies. That reminds me to give a shout-out to our weights coach, Jay DeMayo. We wish you we here, Jay... and Mini Matt, too!
