Jan. 4, 2012: "Fun" Practices, Team Dinner and Dougie's Ice Cream Delirium
Today was a BIG day! The divers arrived moments ago, and our condo gained word from Matt this morning that Carinne (aka Wallace) would be staying with us. Carinne, Jill and I had a fantastic time together last year, so I know she will fit right in here in Chez Gangster.
We only had afternoon practice today, so we enjoyed sleeping in this morning. Luckily, the winds had died down by the time we made our way over to the pool, making the swimming conditions much more pleasant.
I believe there were six different practices. Matt warned us that we might find some of these practices "fun" but that we had to stay focused. Everyone worked on technique and then did some fast swimming with that stroke. I was pretty pumped that I got to share a lane with Mali. We worked with Meredith and used parachutes. Most everyone got to use some sort of equipment today, which is fun because it mixes things up.
After practice, we headed back to the condos and got ready to go to Longboat Key for dinner. Before we left, though, the entire team went out to the beach to take some group pictures. Photographer Matt was a little picky, so we had to stand in eighty different places to get the lighting right. It was a little like having my cameraman father there. Love ya, Michael Krebs!
We then headed to Longboat Key, where we had some authentic Italian pizza at a restaurant called Venezia. With Jill's encouragement, I branched out and tried some different pizzas. I'm not even going to try to spell out their names, but they were very yummy. To have a more informed conversation about Italian cuisine, please contact Miss Jillian Smaniotto.
We meandered around some shops after dinner and picked up a little ice cream along the way. I may have then proceeded to become a little delirious in the van ride back and acted overly silly. I blame it on my alter ego, Dougie. My behavior resulted in Travis telling me I have now reached the maturity level of an eight-year-old boy.
That reminds me... Travis wanted me to let everyone know that his accent during bingo was more Minnesotan than Nebraskan. Happy?
All right, I'm going to call it a night because our condo is watching a new episode of "Modern Family" and I CAN'T miss it. The season premiere of my favorite show "Dog the Bounty Hunter" is also tonight, but it debuts at 10 p.m. and grandma may not make it until then. Adios!
