No. 17 Ranked Field Hockey Drops VCU, 3-1

RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Rebecca Barry scored two goals and assisted on the other as No. 17 ranked Richmond defeated city-rival VCU 3-1 Friday in the two school's first Atlantic 10 Conference match-up.
Richmond improved to 9-4, 2-0 in the Atlantic 10, having won six of the last seven games, including four-straight. The Spiders have won four of the last five against the Rams.
VCU (9-4, 0-2 Atlantic 10) scored the game's first goal in the 42nd minute, but seven minutes later Richmond freshman Taylor Deitrick deflected a shot by Barry into the back of the net on a penalty corner.
Then in a two-minute span Barry scored on a penalty stroke to put the Spiders up 2-1 and then off the rebound of a shot on a penalty corner. The goals were her sixth and seventh of the season and her five points on the day give her a team-leading 21 points on the season.
Deitrick's goal was her team-leading eighth of the year.
Richmond out-shot VCU 15-10. Spider junior goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski made five saves in net.
The No. 17 ranked Spiders play at Saint Louis on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
