Amorose And McDonald Sweep A-10 Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Richmond junior Christina Amorose was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, while freshman Kerri McDonald earned Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league office Monday.
Amorose earned Player of the Week accolades after scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Massachusetts on Saturday in the A-10 opener for both teams. It marked the second-straight year Amorose scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over the Minutewomen.
The Louisville, Ky., native also scored a goal in a 3-0 win over Villanova on Sunday as the No. 22 ranked Spiders improved to 6-0 at home. Amorose has five goals this season and 15 on her career.
McDonald, a midfielder from Dromore, Northern Ireland, was named Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after scoring a goal in the Spiders' 3-0 win over Villanova. Her midfield play was key in both victories on the weekend. McDonald also has five goals on the season, joining Amorose in the top-10 in the A-10 for goals.
The Spiders return to action Friday at city-rival and new Atlantic 10 rival VCU at 5 p.m. at Cary Street Field.
