UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond field hockey team moved up to No. 17 in the nation in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
This is the third week this season that the Spiders are in the Top-25 Poll, moving up from No. 22 last week.
Richmond (8-4, 1-0 Atlantic 10) has won three-straight games and three of its four losses on the season have come to teams currently ranked in the top-8 in this week's poll. Of those three losses to current top-8 teams, two of them - to No. 3 ranked Princeton and No. 8 Old Dominion - were by 2-1 margins.
The Spiders defeated Atlantic 10 rival Massachusetts 1-0 on Saturday in the Atlantic 10 opener and defeated Villanova 3-0 on Sunday to improve to 6-0 at home this season.
Richmond will play at city-rival and new Atlantic 10 rival VCU on Friday at 5 p.m. at Cary Street Field before playing at Saint Louis on Sunday.
