Prentice Earns USTFCCCA All-Regional Honors
11/12/2012 | Cross Country
RICHMOND, Va.- Jillian Prentice earned the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Honors after her individual best 16th place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional last weekend.
"It was a goal of mine from the beginning of the season to be all-region so I'm really happy I was able to achieve it," said Prentice. "However, we were disappointed of where we finished as a team, both on the women's team and men's team.
"With the announcement that the men's track team was being cut as a Division I sport at the school it's been a very emotional season and now that it has finished it is a bit bittersweet. I know that all I have achieved this season has been with the support and encouragement of my teammates including members of the men's track team and it's heartbreaking to know that they will not be lacing up their spikes beside me next year."
Prentice was one of 450 athletes recognized for their top 25 individual performances at one of the nine NCAA regional sites. She was one of five athletes recognized by the USTFCCA from the Atlantic 10 conference.
Prentice has produced strong performances for the Spiders, pacing the Spiders in each of her races including a third place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship, and a third place finish at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Arkansas.
On top of stellar showings on the field, Prentice was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team for the second consecutive year.
