Spiders Begin Cancun Challenge Thursday

CANCUN, MEXICO -- Richmond squares off against Minnesota Thursday at 1:00 p.m. ET in the opening game of the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico.
Spiders Lately
Richmond (1-3) fought Hartford
to the end, but fell 59-54, Sunday afternoon at Chase Arena. Liz Brown posted a
season-best performance with 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 31
minutes. Brown went 6-for-10 from the field. Rachael Bilney followed Brown with
11 points, while Genevieve Okoro added 10 points. Off-the-bench sparkplug Becca
Wann chipped in with seven points, nine rebounds and four assists. The Spiders
square off against Minnesota at 1 p.m. ET. Richmond continues action against
Witchita State Friday at 1 p.m. and concludes play against Wisconsin Green-Bay
at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday. Richmond meets
each of its Cancun Challenge opponents for the first time in program history.
Two of the three teams the Spiders face have unblemished marks (Minnesota, 4-0
and Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2-0).

Scouting Minnesota
The Gophers enter the Cancun Challenge a perfect 4-0 on the
season. Rachel Banham leads Minnesota scoring at 20.3 points per game, while
Micaella Riche follows with 18.5 pp. Riche also grabs a team-high 8.8 rebounds
per game. Minnesota is outscoring opponents by over 20 points per game and are
shooting at a 48 percent clip from the field. Minnesota has connected on
17-of-45 of its three-point shots (37.8%) and is besting counterparts on the
boards by almost 15 rebounds per game. Minnesota is dishing 16.8 assists per
game and is grabbing 10.3 steals per game. Minnesota's first game of the season
was a double-overtime win over Washington State, 87-83. Since then, the Gophers
have won by double-digit margins. Mikayla Bailey was named Big Ten Rookie of
the Week after 9.5 ppg in the Subway Classic.
Witchita
State vs. Richmond, 1pm ET

Scouting Witchita State
The Shockers have three players average double-figures, led
by Jessica Diamond's 12.3 ppg. Jazimen Gordon follows with 11.0 while Alex
Harden follows with 10.7 ppg. Harden leads the team with 6.3 rpg. Witchita
State comes into the Cancun Challenge with a 2-1 mark, its only blemish being a
two-point loss to LSU. The Shockers grabbed their first win of the season with
a 60-51 win over Arkansas State and followed that with a victory over UTSA. Witchita
State is outscoring its opponents by 7.0 ppg and is shooting 43 percent from
the field. The Shockers are also grabbing just under eight more boards per game
than their peers.
Wisconsin-Green

The Phoenix come into the Cancun
Challenge with a 2-0 mark, led by Adrian Ritchie's 20.5 ppg. Sarah Eichler
follows with 14.5 ppg, while Stephanie Sension comes in at 13.5 ppg. Ritchie
leads board totals with 7.0 rpg. Wisconsin-Green Bay has wins over Northern
Iowa and Central Michigan. The Phoenix is outscoring opponents by 14.0 ppg and
shooting at a 44 percent clip from the field. Green Bay is dishing 14.0 apg and
is committing 6.0 less turnovers than its opponents. Wisconsin Green-Bay is
also averaging 10.5 steals per game. The Phoenix is receiving votes in the USA
TODAY Coaches Poll.
