Spiders Shutout St. Joe's

The Women's Tennis team swept St. Joseph's, 7-0 on Saturday.
The Spiders claimed the doubles point early, winning all three matches. Helen Cunningham and Alexandra Smyth advanced their doubles record to 5-2 after defeating Casey Robinson and Aurora Davis, 8-3. Melissa Kandinata and Elizabeth Sims defeated their opponent 8-1, while Joanna Matuszczyk and Nil Horoz earned an 8-3 victory.
The rally continued with a shutout in singles play. Senior Joanna Matuszczyk downed Casey Robinson 6-3, 6-7 (4), and 10-7. Freshman Melissa Kandinata advanced her singles record to 6-2 with a 6-2, 6-1 decisions over Devi Jadeja. Senior Helen Cunningham defeated Aurora Davis with a pair of 6-2 victories. Sophomore Elizabeth Sims improved her singles record to 8-0 by shutting out her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Junior Alexandra Smyth defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-1 while freshman Nil Horoz picked up a point for the Spiders with 6-2, 6-1 victories over Tara Walsh.
The Spiders enter spring break with an overall record of 6-2. Play will resume on March 15 against A-10 opponent, George Washington.
