WASHINGTON, D.C. - After trailing 1-0, Richmond scored four
unanswered goals to down No. 25 ranked American 4-1 to open the 2012 season
Friday.
Four different Spiders, scored including two freshmen, as the Spiders defeated the Eagles for the second-straight season.
American got on the board first when Gina Hofmann scored in the 21st minute, but Richmond senior Jackie Gyger scored on an assist from Chelsea Davies.
Sophomore Rebecca Barry scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute off assists from freshman Amy Cooke and senior Catherine Ostoich on a penalty corner.
Freshman Kerri McDonald scored six minutes later to make it 3-1 and freshman Taylor Deitrick scored in the 61st minute to finish the scoring.
The Spiders return to action on Wednesday when they play at Virginia at 5 p.m.
