Jessie Krebs' Training Trip Blog: Day 4
01/03/2013 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Editor's Note: Junior Jessie Krebs will chronicle her time with Spider Swim & Dive on the team's winter training trip to Sarasota, Fla., this December and January. Below is her fourth blog entry of the trip.
This blog post is going to be a short one because we've just returned from a fun evening in downtown Sarasota and are very tired! We started off the morning with more endurance work and performed much better as a group. Everyone used fins and snorkels-we don't like snorkels as much lately because Travis sneakily taped up the air holes while we were swimming yesterday. It was a bit cloudy this morning, but after breakfast and a nap the sun was shining again and we were ready for our second practice. BUT, I have breaking news to report from the pool. The bathrooms are under construction and we must use "Port-A-Johns" instead. This might not seem like a big deal, but for a women's swim team it was breaking news and resulted in some traumatic experiences-just ask Anne Marie. I will never take our nice bathroom at school for granted ever again.
At our second practice we did a long warm up and got our heart rates going, and then prepped for some fast 50's off the blocks. We got a visit from our friend Steve Carroll, a Richmond alum of 1973 who visited us last year. We love having visitors come and distract Matt and Travis, so anyone else reading this in the Sarasota area should stop by as well!
After practice, we spent a little time on the beach and then got ready to go out to dinner. As we prepped, I heard Erin squealing in the living room that we might be experiencing an apocalypse. There was a rainy mist covering the beach with fog, and it looked like the outside of our condo was engulfed in smoke. Of course this all happened just minutes before our team picture on the beach, but the picture actually turned out pretty cool with the foggy effect (check out the photo gallery!). We then hopped into the vans and travelled to downtown Sarasota where we ate at an amazing Italian restaurant. After dinner, we trekked over to a homemade ice cream and fudge shop called Kilwins. After another long but fun day, it's time to get some sleep. Goodnight.
