Spiders Host Navy Midshipmen Friday At 7 P.M.

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- In its first home game in two weeks, Richmond hosts Navy Friday Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Robins Center.
Scouting Navy
The Midshipmen come into Friday's game with a 7-6 mark, 1-4
in away games. Navy is led by Jade Geif's 12.2 points per game, followed by
Alix Membreno and Kara Pollinger with 11.8 and 11.4 ppg, respectively. Navy
last played on Dec. 30 against Marshall, winning 67-51. Audrey Bauer was named
the Navy Athlete of the Week for averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0
assists and 2.0 three-point field goals made against Marquette and Marshall.
Navy is outscoring opponents by three points a game and is making 40 percent of
its shots from the field. Navy is also shooting 34 percent from three, led by
Pollinger's 27 long-range shots. Geif also leads rebounding totals with 7.5
rpg. Membreno follows with 6.3 rpg.
Richmond Lately
Richmond grinded out a win over UNC-Wilmington, 53-42, Dec.
30 in Wilmington. Kristina King led Richmond with 17 points, while Rachael
Bilney and Keri Soppe followed with nine points apiece. The nine points was a
season-high for Soppe, as was her team-high six assists. Becca Wann led all
Spider rebounding with 11 for the game. The 42 points allowed was the fewest by
a Richmond opponent this year. It was also the fewest points allowed since
Witchita State Nov. 23. The Spiders look to get their fourth win at home in six
games this season, and is led by King's 13.8 ppg. Bilney follows with 12.1 ppg,
while Wann chips in with 9.4 ppg and a team-best 7.7 rpg. Like Navy, Richmond
is scoring almost three more points a game than its opponents are are shooting
42 percent from the field. The Spiders are making 36 percent of its long-range
shots, led by Bilney's 40 percent accuracy (34-of-86).
The Teams
Richmond holds the 4-2 edge in the series with the
Midshipmen, and won last year's meeting 56-39 in Annapolis in both teams'
season-opener. Richmond has won the last two in the series and looks to secure
its first win at home over Navy since 1986.
Up Next
Richmond hosts La Salle Monday at 7 p.m. in its
non-conference finale. Because of the number of teams this year in the league,
Richmond does not face La Salle in the A-10 regular season, allowing the
schools to play each other in non-conference action.
