Richmond Falls To Dukes On Senior Night
10/26/2013 | Women's Soccer
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond women's soccer team fell to Duquesne, 2-0, Friday night at Robins Stadium.
“Duquesne was very good tonight,” said head coach Peter Albright. “I was very impressed with their mentality and organization. I liked our energy in the first 25 minutes, but we flattened out after the goal. We're a little thin right now and we weren't able to create enough chances.”
The Dukes (6-6-2. 2-2-1) struck first at the 21:49 mark when Maggie Mayo scored at close range off a through pass from Stephanie Colon. Duquesne sealed the win with a goal with 40 seconds remaining in the game.
Richmond (5-8-2, 2-3-0) had its two-game win streak snapped as it lost its second-straight to the Dukes.
The Spiders outshot Duquesne, 16-11, led by senior Erin Layne's four attempts. Shannon Colligan and Ashley Riefner added three shots apiece. Emily Kelly had five saves in goal.
The Spiders conclude their home slate with UMass Sunday at 1 p.m.
