11/15/2013 | Cross Country
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Spider men's and women's cross country team competed in the NCAA Southeast Regional with the Richmond women finishing 10th in the 6k and the Spider men finishing 18th in the 10k on Friday. The race was held at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va.
“Our women ran well today, “ said head women's cross county coach Lori Taylor. “Our top three worked really well together and pushed throughout. I felt this was a good team performance and a good way to finish the season. I'm also excited for freshman Marisa Ruskan who ran her way to a top-25 finish. That will earn her NCAA All-Region honors.”
For the women, freshman Marisa Ruskan led the way for Richmond, finishing 25th individually in a field of 265 runners with a time of 21:13.1. Ruskan was the second Atlantic 10 finisher in the field. Teammates Jill Prentice and Tara Hanley also ran strong for the Spider women finishing 32ndand 35th. The Spider women's team was able to just sneak in to the top-10 finishing 10th overall.
“I felt both our men and women ran good races today,” said head men's cross country coach Steve Taylor. “I was pleased for our men placing 18th, given the vast number of injuries this season. They are fighters and got out there and laid it on the line for each other and our program.”
The Spider men finished 18th overall in the 10k. Jason Skipper earned Richmond's top time at 30:31.4, followed by Ryan Lee with a time of 31:01.5. The team's 18th-place finish is three spots better than their 21st-place finish in the Southeast Regional last year.
