UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Senior guard Cedrick Lindsay scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Richmond men's basketball team past Hofstra 74-63 for head coach Chris Mooney's 150th win with Spiders Tuesday night in the Robins Center.
Lindsay shot 10-of-19 from the field, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc as he pulled within 31 points of 1,000 for his career. Lindsay has scored 19 or more points in nine of the last 15 games and double-figures in 15 of the last 18 games.
Junior guard Kendall Anthony added 18 points behind five three pointers, giving him 137 for his career, 13 from cracking the Spiders' all-time Top-10 list. Sophomore Trey Davis had six points, 10 rebounds and three blocks on the night, including one at the buzzer at the end of the second half.
The Spiders trailed by as many as 11 midway through the second half and never led in regulation, but a late run capped by a Derrick Williams old-fashioned three-point play sent the game into overtime, where Richmond never trailed.
Richmond pulled away from the Pride in the extra session outscoring Hofstra16-5. Richmond's defense was stellar on the night, forcing 19 turnovers and converting them into 23 points.
"I thought what really changed it for us was our defense," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "Our aggression causing some turnovers, getting some easier baskets and not having to face the zone quite as much. I thought Cedrick played great, Trey Davis played great. I'm really pleased with the win. It's great to see us respond."
The Spiders improved to 2-0 in the Hall of Fame Tipoff and now hit the road for the first time this season, heading to the Mohegan Sun Casino to face No. 19 North Carolina on Saturday at 12 p.m. on ESPN3.
