UNCASSVILLE, Conn. – Despite a career-high 29 points from senior point guard Cedrick Lindsay, the Richmond Spiders fell to the No. 19 North Carolina Tar Heels, 82-72, in the Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic on Saturday.
Richmond was led by Lindsay, who shot 7-of-14 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc as he scored a career-high for the second-straight game. Lindsay had 26 points in the win over Hofstra on Tuesday.
Junior guard Kendall Anthony added 13 points off the bench for the Spiders, while sophomore Terry Allen had nine points and six rebounds.
The Spiders led for most of the first half, before Carolina took a three-point lead at intermission. Richmond trailed by four with just under four minutes to play when sophomore Terry Allen picked up his fourth foul when a North Carolina player came over his back on a rebound.
Richmond got off to a great start, leading the Tar Heels by as many as nine points in the first half. After trailing by just three at break, the Spiders tied North Carolina, 56-56, on an Anthony three-pointer at the 8:38 mark of the second half."There was a couple loose balls and a couple of offensive rebounds that they went up and got them, and that was the difference," Lindsay said.
Richmond will play Fairfield on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic third-place game at Mohegan Sun.
