Wo Men's Basketball Rallies Past College Of Charleston

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Two Spiders with double-doubles led the Richmond women's basketball team over the College of Charleston Cougars, 80-73, that kicked off a doubleheader with the men's team Saturday afternoon at the Robins Center.
Freshman Olivia Healy led the Spiders with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while redshirt junior Genevieve Okoro added 18 points and 15 rebounds for season highs in both categories. Okoro also tallied a career-high four blocks.
In addition to Healy and Okoro, junior Keri Soppe tallied 10 points for her third time in double figures this season.
In a game that was back and forth from the start, Richmond (5-5) found itself down seven, 49-42, at the 15:05 mark of the second half. The Spiders went on a 16-9 run that was capped off by a crucial three-pointer from Healy to tie the score at 58 with with 8:10 left to play.
The Spiders then scored six-straight points that tamed the Cougars (4-4) with five minutes left that eventually secured the game.
Richmond shot 45.8 percent from the field, while going 5-of-16 from three-point range. The Spiders held Charleston to 36.6 percent from the field and forced 20 Cougar turnovers that they turned into 26 points.
The Spiders will be back in action Friday, Dec. 20 when they travel across country for the 2013 Long Beach Classic against the host Long Beach State at 8 p.m. EST.
