
Spiders Drop Overtime Thriller To Ohio, 70-69

UNIVERISTY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Ohio's Nick Kellogg drained a contested three-pointer with seven seconds remaining in overtime to give the Bobcats a 70-69 win over Richmond Sunday in the Robins Center.
Richmond's Cedrick Lindsay had given the Spiders' a two-point lead on jumper with 32 seconds remaining.Lindsay, who scored the Spiders' last six points in overtime, led Richmond with a game-high 23 points to go with five assists and four rebound. Junior Kendall Anthony added 17 points for his fourth-straight game in double-figures.
"I thought we played well in spurts and did some really good things," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "Obviously our free throws in the second half were critical. It's just a disppointing way to lose and a tough way to lose going into the Christmas break."
The Spiders made just 14-of-26 free throws for the game, including missing their first seven free throws in the second half.
In a tale of two halves, Richmond led by as many as 10 in the first half before taking a 42-38 lead into the break. The second half was a defensive struggle, but Lindsay and Anthony turned it on in the last eight minutes of the half as they combined to score 21 of the Spiders' 23 points in the second half.
Down two with less than a minute left in regulation, Anthony hit a game-tying jumper with 22 second left to force overtime.
In the extra session, the Bobcats stormed out to an early four-point advantage, but Lindsay brought Richmond back, reeling off four-straight points to give the Spiders a 69-67 lead with 32 seconds left.
Ohio came right back as Nick Kellogg hit a contested 3-pointer with seven seconds left to take the lead. Richmond had two shots to win in the final seconds, but it was Ohio who did the celebrating.
Richmond will be back in action on Saturday as the team hosts in-state rival Old Dominion at the Robins Center in a game nationally televised on NBCSN. Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
