THE SERIES
This is the 41st meeting between the two teams in an all-time series that dates back to 1985. The Spiders hold the all-time advantage with a convincing 30-10 record. The two teams last met a year ago when Richmond downed the Seahawks, 53-42, at Trask Coliseum. Kristina King led both teams with 17 points and two assists.
THE SPIDERS
The Spiders concluded its longest road trip of the season at Liberty this past Tuesday and fell to the Flames, 76-61, as they are 3-5 on the season. Liberty shot 51.9 percent, thanks to 10-of-17 from behind arc. Genevieve Okoro leads the Spiders as the redshirt junior is averaging 10.4 points per game and 8.0 rebounds. Freshman Olivia Healy follows with 10.1 ppg and 7.4 rpg.
THE SEAHAWKS
The Seahawks enter Saturday after a tough three-day Cancun Challenge. UNCW is 1-7 on the season and is on a five-game losing streak. The Seahawks have been outscored by their opponents by a margin of 20 and are shooting 36.5 percent from the field. Kelva Atkins leads the squad with 19.3 points per game and has 22 steals this season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Spiders concluded its longest road of the season at Liberty, but fell to the Flames, 76-61, this past Tuesday at the Vines Center. The Flames shot 51.9 percent from the field thanks to 10-of-17 from behind the arc. Richmond shot an overall 36.2 percent and just 27.3 percent from three-point range. Freshmen Janelle Hubbard and Olivia Healy led the Spiders in double figures. Hubbard scored a team-high 14 points, while Healy tallied 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
SOPPE NAMED MADNESS HIGH-MAJOR CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior Keri Soppe was named one of the Madness High-Major Conference Players of the Week on Dec. 1 for her efforts against Longwood and Virginia Tech. The junior tied her then-career high 12 points in the win at Virginia Tech, before blasting 21 points at Longwood to lead the Spiders to a convincing 77-71 win over the Lancers.
UP NEXT
The Spiders will host Charleston Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m., before hitting the road for the seventh time this season on Dec. 20 when they head to California.
