Spiders Visit North Carolina This Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond travels to North Carolina for a two-game road swing at Duke and UNC this weekend. Richmond plays at No. 7 Duke Friday at 7 p.m. and continues action against No. 5 North Carolina at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Scouting Duke
The Blue Devils come into Friday's game ranked No. 7
nationally and are 2-0 to start their 2013 season. Kerrin Maurer and Gabby
Moise were named the ACC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week,
respectively after guiding Duke to wins over Virginia Tech and Presbyterian.
Duke shut Presbyterian, 23-0, leading to Duke's largest margin of victory ever.
The Blue Devils won last year's meeting against the Spiders, 17-13. Duke owns a
8-1 edge over the Spiders all-time.
Scouting North
Carolina
The Spiders continue action with fifth-ranked North Carolina
Sunday. The Tar Heels are coming off a 5-3 loss to No. 3 Florida last weekend.
UNC will host Towson Friday before facing the Spiders on Sunday. The Tar Heels
are led by their four captains, Emily Garrity, Kara Cannizzaro, Sloane Serpe
and Margaret Corzel. Garrity and Cannizzaro return to the midfield, while Serpe
and Garrity spearhead the defense. North Carolina also returns its third-leading scorer in Abbey Friend. The Tar Heels defeated the Spiders, 17-6, last
season. Richmond is 0-4 against North Carolina all-time.
Last Time Out
Richmond is coming off a 20-7 loss to No. 4 Maryland last
Sunday. Senior Sam Stevenson led the Spiders with four goals, and notched her
100th career goal Sunday. Caitlin Fifield,
Kara Moschetti and Emily Doyle all recorded one goal apiece. Stevenson sits at 102 career goals, only
one tally shy of cracking Richmond's top-10 all-time list.
