Richmond's Blum Named A-10 Pitcher Of The Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After a stellar outing last weekend, University of Richmond RHP Andrew Blum was named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The honor is the first in the career for Blum.
"This is a great honor for Andrew and we couldn't be more pleased for him," Richmond head coach Mark McQueen said. "On a very difficult day weather-wise to be pitching, Andrew was about as sharp with his command as I have seen him."
Blum was nearly unhittable against the Bucknell Bison this past Sunday on a frigid afternoon at Pitt Field. The Plano, Texas native had one of the finest performances of his career, tossing seven strong innings in earning his first win of the season.
The junior hurler allowed just one unearned run while scattering a pair of hits. Blum struck out seven batters while not allowing a walk in the Richmond victory. The right-hander retired the first 10 batters of the game, giving the Spider offense plenty of time to get warm in the eventual 6-1 win.
The Richmond Spiders baseball team will look to continue its winning ways on Wednesday afternoon when it plays host to the VMI Keydets. First pitch at Pitt Field is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
