Richmond Shoots Past City-Rival VCU

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- The Spiders made a season-high 12 three-pointers en route to a 66-62 victory over city-rival VCU Wednesday.
Richmond improved to 14-13, 4-7 while winning its fifth-straight over its cross-town rival. The Spiders have taken 12 of the last 14 over the Rams. Richmond now finds itself in the thick of the conference standings as it looks to clinch a spot at the Atlantic 10 Tournament in Philly next month.
The Bilney twins spearheaded the winning effort by both reaching special milestones on the night. Rachael Bilney, honored in a pregame ceremony for scoring her 1,000th point over UMass Sunday, finished with a team-high 17 points. Bilney also moved into second all-time in career three-point shots (190) with a game-high five threes.
Twin Samantha Bilney poured in a career-high 14 points, making 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Becca Wann added 12 points and six assists off the bench. Kristina King tied a career-high with eight assists.
Richmond went a season-high 12-of-29 (41.4%) from behind the arc and shot at a 25-of-56 (44.6%) clip from the field. The Spiders had 18 assists and nine steals.
Richmond's bench outscored VCU 23-6. Robyn Parks, the second-leading scorer in the league, led VCU with 29 points and 20 rebounds.
The Spiders led by as many as 14 with 7:09 left in the game.
Richmond travels to Indy to play in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in a first-ever meeting against Butler. Tip is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
