Spiders Travel To N.C. State For WNIT First Round

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond plays at N.C. State Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the WNIT.

The Wolfpack comes into Thursday's game with a 16-16 mark, 7-11 in ACC play and 10-6 at Reynolds Coliseum. This is the Wolfpack's third postseason appearance in four seasons under head coach Kellie Harper. Harper led her first NC State team to the 2010 NCAA Tournament and guided last year's squad to the 2012 WNIT. Senior all-conference first-team selection and ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year Marissa Kastanek (12.8 ppg) and junior Kody Burke (13.5 ppg) lead this year's edition of the Wolfpack. N.C. State shoots 42 percent from the field and is scoring 69.3 ppg, almost five points more than its counterparts. The Wolfpack also pulls down 41.5 rebounds per game, five more than their opponents. N.C. State has won three of its last four games.
Richmond Lately
Richmond rallied to tie GW in the closing minutes of the opening game of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Tournament, but fell 59-53, Mar. 8 at Hagan Arena. Becca Wann led all scorers with 17 points, 12 rebounds, while Kristina King added 16. Ryann Dannelly was just short of a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. The Spiders are led by King's 13.2 ppg, with Rachael Bilney following at 11.4 ppg. Becca Wann comes off the bench to contribute 10.8 ppg and leads the team with 91 assists. Liz Brown's 48 blocks this season rank second in a single-season in the Spider record books. The Spiders are shooting 39 percent from the field and 31 percent from long range. Richmond has made 74 percent of its free-throws. Richmond ended its regular season at 16-15 on the season and 6-8 in the A-10 standings.
The Last Time The Two Teams Met
Richmond went on a 14-5 run early and never looked back en route to a 72-58 win Dec. 15, 2011. Richmond led by as many as 17 in the second frame and won its second-straight over the Wolfpack. Keri Soppe had 12 points, while Becca Wann added nine points. Richmond shot 51 percent from the field (29-of-53) and 53 percent from long range (8-for-15). Richmond owns a 2-1 all-time edge in the series and have won two-straight against the Wolfpack. Richmond's only loss came in 1998 at N.C. State.
