UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Incoming freshman Olivia Healy was tabbed the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year and ESPNBoston.com Miss Basketball.
“We are extremely excited and proud to have Liv named Miss Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year,” said head coach Michael Shafer. “This is a tremendous honor for her and for her team! We feel like we are getting a tremendous basketball player and even better person and competitor. The success that Liv's team has had the past two years is proof that a great competitive spirit will lead to success and Liv is being aptly rewarded.”
The Reading, Mass. native is considered one of the best prospects in the state and signed her letter of National Intent with Richmond last November.
Healy averages 27.5 points per game, 11.5 rebounds per game, 5.3 steals per game and 3.8 assists per game. Healy will leave Reading High School as one of its most decorated athletes in school history after amassing 1,899 points, shattering a record held since 1985.
Healy has led the Reading Rockets to an 86-7 record in four years, with four Middlesex League titles and two MIAA Division 2 North Titles. Healy has led her squad to an Eastern Massachusetts Championship and the school's first-ever state title in 2012.
Healy also spearheaded a 48-game win streak by the Rockets, starting at the beginning of the 2011-12 season. The streak was eventually snapped Mar. 11.
Healy will join the Spiders this fall.
