Spiders Travel To GW For A-10 Opener Friday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond squares off against GW in both teams' conference opener Friday at 4 p.m. in the nation's capital.
Scouting George Washington
The Colonials come into Friday's game with a 5-4 overall mark, and are 3-3 at home. GW has lost two-straight in contests against No. 12 Johns Hopkins and No. 18 Navy. Nicole Lacey leads GW scoring with 22 goals, while Jamie Bumgardner has tallied a team-high 31 points (10g, 21a). Bumgardner's 2.3 assists per game leads the league. Jen Seitz spearheads the GW defense with a team-high 24 ground balls. Seitz is second on the team with 26 draw controls.
Scouting Richmond
The Spiders enter their A-10 opener with a 3-7 mark, having played one of the most competitive non-conference schedules in the country. Six of Richmond's non-conference foes were ranked in the Top-20, with four of those opponents ranking in the Top-10. Sam Stevenson leads the A-10 with 31 goals this season, and is 12th in the country in this category. Senior captain and former A-10 Player of the Week Caitlin Fifield follows with 37 points (24g, 13a) while Kara Moschetti adds 28 points (19g, 9a). Tara Coyle and Taylor Blazer lead the Spider defense where they rank second and fourth, respectively, in the A-10 in ground ball pickups. Blazer leads Richmond with 23 draw controls.
The Teams
Richmond won last year's meeting, 18-17, at Robins Stadium. Fifield and Stevenson led Richmond with five goals apiece. Richmond owns a 5-3 edge in the series, and have won five-straight over the Colonials.
