UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Five Spiders earned Atlantic 10 honors as announced by the league office Thursday.
Caitlin Fifield, Sam Stevenson and Taylor Blazer were all named to the All-Conference first team, while Tara Coyle garnered second team honors. Freshman Emily Newman was tabbed to the All-Rookie team and Fifield was awarded All-Academic honors.
For Fifield, it is the second-straight first-team honor for the Tewaaraton Watch List nominee. It is the fourth overall All-Conference accolade for the redshirt senior. Fifield was tabbed to the second team in 2011 and garnered an All-Rookie nod her freshman year.
Fifield leaves Richmond as one of its most decorated student-athletes, finishing fourth all-time in goals (174), seventh in assists (55) and third in total points (229). Fifield earned A-10 Player of the Week honors four times in her career, and the Sociology major was tabbed to the All-Academic team.
Sam Stevenson, the reigning A-10 Player of the Week, also grabbed first team honors. Stevenson garnered the first A-10 Player of the Week honors for her career after leading Richmond with 10 points (8g, 2a) and 12 draw controls in a 2-0 weekend for the Spiders. Stevenson ended her stellar senior campaign with a team-high 54 goals and finished fifth all-time in goals (152), eighth in assists (46) and fifth in total points (198).
Joining Fifield and Stevenson on the first team is seasoned junior defender Taylor Blazer. The Berlin, Md. native garnered All-Conference recognition after leading Richmond in draw controls (47) and caused turnovers (23). Blazer finished second on the team with 36 ground balls and secured a career-best eight draw controls in a win over ODU Mar. 5. It is the third-straight year Blazer has been received All-Conference recognition, and the second season with first-team honors.
Senior captain Tara Coyle was tabbed to the All-Conference second team after leading Richmond with 37 ground balls on the season. Coyle spearheaded the Spider defense and picked up a career-best six ground balls at No. 19 Navy. It is the first All-Conference recognition for the Farmingdale, N.Y. native.
Freshman Emily Newman rounds out the Spider accolades, earning All-Rookie honors. Newman recorded seven points this season (6g, 1a) and picked up 11 ground balls and four draw controls.
