AMHERST, Mass. -- Richmond rallied from a five-goal deficit, but fell to No. 13 Massachusetts, 12-11, in double-overtime Friday at McGuirk Stadium.
The Spiders exploded for seven-straight goals, rallying from an 8-3 halftime deficit to push ahead, 11-9, with 13:22 left. The smothering Richmond defense staved off numerous Massachusetts attempts to score, until Katie Ferris put one through the net with 1:03 remaining to cut the lead to 11-10.
UMass' Cori Murray would score 20 seconds later to force the first overtime. Murray would score the eventual game-winner at the 1:57 mark in the sudden-victory second overtime.
Richmond's scoring spree was jumpstarted by a Kara Moschetti unassisted goal at the 24:12 mark in the second half. From there, the Spiders rattled off six-straight goals in the game's next 10 minutes. UMass would close regulation with the game's last three goals to force the extra period.
Zoltoski led Richmond with three goals off three shots, while Caitlin Fifield also contributed three points (2g, 1a). Moschetti and Sam Stevenson added two goals apiece.
Taylor Blazer was stellar defensively, snagging a team-high seven draw controls, six ground balls and causing five turnovers. Freshman Michaela Aymong secured a team-high six saves in goal in 40 minutes of play.
Richmond won the draw control, 15-12.
The Spiders resume action at La Salle Sunday, Apr. 7 at 1 p.m.
