Rocco Looks To Continue Success Versus Gardner-Webb
Richmond head coach Danny Rocco will look to continue his success against Gardner-Webb this weekend in Boiling Springs, N.C. At Liberty and now at Richmond, Rocco has run up a 6-1 record against the Runnin' Bulldogs, having won six-straight contests against his former Big South rival by an average margin of 27.5 points per game.
Spiders Boast Impressive Pass Offense
Through two games this season, Richmond boasts the most prolific passing attack in the CAA. The Spiders lead the league in pass yards per game (306.5), completions (58), attempts (90) and passing touchdowns (6). Nationally, Richmond ranks 11th in pass offense.
Wynn-Win Situation
Senior DL Kerry Wynn has been a disruptive force for the Spiders in 2013. Wynn leads all CAA defensive linemen in tackles with 16, while also recording 1.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.
Strauss Starts Season on Fire
QB Michael Strauss has started his junior season playing some of the finest football of his career. Strauss ranks second in the CAA and ninth in the country in passing yards per game (282.5), while also ranking seventh in the nation in total passing yards (565). On the season, Strauss has completed 64.2 percent of his passes, throwing for five touchdowns and just one interception.
Non-League Brilliance
Richmond has not lost a non-conference FCS game in the regular season since 2005 and is a spotless 17-0 since then. The last FCS loss in the regular season was at Lafayette, 7-0, in 2005. Including the Spiders' annual game versus an FBS opponent, Richmond's non-conference regular-season record since 2007 is 15-5 (that includes wins at Duke in 2009 and 2011).
On This Date in Spider Football History
On September 14, 1974, the Richmond Spiders traveled to Morgantown, W.V. and defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers, 29-25. The Spiders have played only seven times on September 14 in program history, posting a record of 5-2 in those contests.
